K Rajasekharan and Ganeshi Lal has been appointed as Mizoram Governor and Odisha Governor

Kerala BJP president Kummanam Rajasekharan was appointed as the new governor of Mizoram. He will be replacing Lieutenant General (retd) Nirbhay Sharma who is completing his tenure on May 28. Professor Ganeshi Lal has been appointed as the Governor of Odisha with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office. Lal would be replacing Satya Pal Malik.

Shri Uttam Pacharne appointed regular Chairman of Lalit Kala Akademi

The President of India has appointed Shri Uttam Pacharne, as regular Chairman of Lalit Kala Akademi. Shri Pacharne is an eminent artist and sculptor. He is a widely respected person in the field of art and has held various important positions. He is the recipient of National Lalit Kala Award 1985, Maharashtra Gaurav Puraska 1985 from Government of Maharashtra, Junior National Award 1986 and Jeevan Gaurav Puraskar 2017 from Prafulla Dahanukar Foundation. Shri Pacharne will hold office for a term of three years from the date on which he assumes the charge of his office.

Indore is India’s cleanest city yet again

The union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs declared Indore as the cleanest among 4,203 urban local bodies (ULBs) in the country in the Swachh Survekshan 2018 carried out earlier this year. This is the second time in a row that Indore — the commercial capital of Madhya Pradesh, venue for the state government’s investment summits, and the constituency of Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan - has been crowned India’s ‘cleanest city’.

Mary Kom Bags First CWG Gold

35-year-old MC Mary Kom has become the first Indian woman to win a boxing gold at the Commonwealth Games. Making a comeback to boxing after a two year sabbatical, Mary beat Northern Ireland's Kristina O'Hara convincingly in the 48kg final. The 35-year-old five-time world champion and Olympic bronze-medallist was competing in her debut Commonwealth Games, also perhaps her last, and made it a memorable one with yet another dominating performance to claim an unanimous verdict of 5-0.

Rishad Premji appointed as Nasscom Chairman

IT industry body Nasscom has appointed Wipro chief strategy officer and board member Rishad Premji as its chairman for 2018-19. Besides, Nasscom has appointed WNS Group CEO Keshav Murugesh as the vice chairman. Mr. Premji has been a member of Nasscom’s executive council and was the vice chairman for 2017-18, Nasscom.

Mirabai Chanu wins gold medal

Mirabai Chanu secured India’s first gold medal in the 2018 Commonwealth Games when she finished first in the women’s 48 kg weightlifting event at Gold Coast . Mirabai Chanu smashed the Commonwealth and Commonwealth Games’ weightlifting record by lifting 196 kg. The previous Games’ record was 175 kg set by Augustine Nwaokolo of Nigeria in 2010.
